Position in the site boundary and orientation is determined by the existing buildings – museum complex and workshops and the line of the green wedge. The new school is a continuance of the existing setting and allows the landscape to take its natural shape and evolve in time.
The base of the building is a spatial modular structure, with dimensions 16m/16m/16m, with maximum height of 16 meters. This further determines the height of the other planned buildings, on the west side – residential and mixed use, on the east side towards the railway – offices, workshops, ateliers and parking space.
The structure of the building is steel. Using this material it is possible to preserve the dynamics of future construction and deconstruction according to the needs of the school. Material itself creates industrial look of the exterior and blank, wide interior ready to be transformed by the students themselves.
Building’s shape is not and cannot be fully determined. With its modularity it is flexible and can be easily adapted to the urban environment and landscape. It is a living organism which can grow and shrink in time. In the boundary of each module it is possible to have different heights, organization and openings according to the function and sunlight.
Orthogonality can be seen as a limit or as a possibility of infinite variations.
